Samarkand in 3 Days: The Perfect Silk Road Itinerary

Samarkand is one of the oldest cities in Central Asia and the heart of the Great Silk Road. With more than 2,700 years of history, it welcomes travelers with turquoise domes, lively bazaars and warm hospitality.

Day 1: Registan Square and Gur-e-Amir

Start your journey at Registan Square, surrounded by three magnificent madrasahs. In the evening, visit the Gur-e-Amir Mausoleum, the resting place of Amir Temur, which is beautifully illuminated after sunset.

Day 2: Shah-i-Zinda and Bibi-Khanym Mosque

Walk through the Shah-i-Zinda necropolis, famous for its unique tilework. Then explore the Bibi-Khanym Mosque and the nearby Siab Bazaar, where you can taste fresh bread, dried fruits and local sweets.

Day 3: Ulugbek Observatory and Konigil

Visit the observatory of the great astronomer Ulugbek, then head to the Konigil paper workshop to see how traditional Samarkand silk paper is made.
